Police sergeant on Assault Charges

A POLICE sergeant and a civilian support officer will now face trial in March over allegations they assaulted a man while he was in custody.
Sgt Stephen Harvey, 50, and colleague Michael Mount, 60, who are both employed by Durham police, both deny two separate charges of common assault.
They are accused of attacking David Healer in the custody suite of Peterlee police station following his arrest on March 5 last year.
Their trial had been due to begin yesterday, but it was adjourned until March 21 following a brief hearing at Teesside Magistrates Court.
Both Sgt Harvey, of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, and Mr Mount, of Thornley, County Durham, did not have to appear for the hearing.
The case has been brought by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
